FAQFrequently asked questions
Q1What gear do I need?
An iPad or iPhone plus a class-compliant USB audio interface (for example a Focusrite Scarlett) fed from your mixer's master out. A powered USB-C hub is recommended so the device stays charged through a long set. No interface? The built-in mic works fine for testing. For specific mixers and controllers — Pioneer, Allen & Heath, Denon, Rane and more — see the hardware compatibility list.
Q2What happens if a cable gets pulled or I get a call mid-set?
Lacquer keeps recording — filling the gap with silence — and resumes the moment the signal returns. The take is clearly flagged so you know a gap occurred. It's designed to never lose the set.
Q3Where are my recordings? Are they backed up?
They live on your device and are browsable in the iOS Files app for drag-and-drop. Nothing is uploaded automatically — back them up yourself by exporting/sharing, or by copying them out via Files.
Q4How do I export or master a set?
Open a take and tap Share. Choose ALAC, AAC or WAV, then optionally apply loudness/normalization, trim, fades, or split at markers. Your original 24-bit master is never modified.
Q5Can I livestream?
Yes, optionally. Enter an RTMP URL and stream key for a destination you choose (e.g. Mixcloud Live) and tap Go Live. It's audio-only and never affects your recording.
Q6How long can it record? Will it fill my storage?
12+ hours. The record screen shows a live free-space countdown plus a battery/charging check. A single set won't fill a modern device.
Q7Is my data private?
Everything stays on your device — no account, no tracking. See the Privacy Policy for the full details.
